To Kill a God
KG Session 6

“On the Great Dragon’s Wings”

“The Great Dragon wanted our heads! He killed hundreds of us, hundreds of his loyal worshipers! How do we answer that?

“For centuries, we defined ourselves by our faith in the Great Dragon. We trusted that he was a beneficent god, but what do we do when we discover our god is merely our prisoner? What do we do when our Savior comes to kill us?

“I’ll tell you. We find a new savior. Someone who literally saved us from the monster we called ‘God’. We find a King.”

-Father Torold, Priest, formerly of the Order of the Sleeping Savior
“I have seen the light of the new dawn.”

“A Dead God”

“They murdered Him. They murdered our Savior, our one true God. He came to us, full in His glory, and began His selfless work of sending His unworthy supplicants to His domain in the sky.

“What greater honor could we receive than to be borne to Heaven, as the Book foretold, by the righteous claw of the one true God?

“But yea, the defilers came and killed our God. They shall pay dearly for this great evil.”

Father Bollu, Priest, Order of the Sleeping Savior
“We will avenge Him!”

“Baa. Beeaaaahh. Baaaaah.

“Beeeeeea. Beeeeeh.

In Night-Seeming Day...
KG Session 5

The Prophecy

“Out of the darkness, a new Dawn shall rise;
A King to bring peace beyond peace.
His light shall shine in all subjects’ eyes,
His arms to broaden the Crown’s reach.

“Born to no crown, yet near to the Throne,
The unlikely new Dawn will break free.
Those who may harry his rising are none
Save for these adventurers three:

“The First sweet of name, The Second of face,
The Third sweet of nature new-made.
The Third dark of future, The First dark of race,
The Second’s past darker than shade.

“The First with his sword, The Second her bow,
The Third with his spear draped in gore.
The Three shall travel the kingdom unknown
And decide the oncoming war.

“In Night-Seeming Day shall he be called King,
Short after his Blood’s blood be shed.
In Day-Seeming Night his victory bells ring
And the crown rests itself on his head.”

-Old Woman
“Hail the new Dawn.”

The Eclipse

“Today, Geldira welcomes her new King, Dior Fenn. All of Roinsrest was atwitter about the ceremony, joining Lord Dior Fenn, former Councilor of the Coin and Lord of Senway, to Queen Raia Hotte, in sight of the Gods.

“While some believe the eclipse this day to have been an ill omen, Father Thorlough assures the citizens that the anomaly bodes well for the new marriage, as it represents the Gods themselves bowing their heads to the union.”

-Terryn Talbot, writer, “Roinsrest Herald”
“Good night, and Good news.”

A Meeting in the Woods
KG Session 4

Trust is Key

“Go with them. Take the Prince.

“They didn’t kill him. You have to trust me. Have I been wrong before?

“Exactly. And I’m not wrong now. You all need each other. Go where they will go and I will meet with you when the time is right.

“Listen I don’t know who killed Gelmar, but I know it wasn’t those four. I can’t tell you how I know, not yet, but remember, trust is key. I’ll see you soon.

“I know, Edmund. I know.”

-The Old Woman,
“I will be back soon.”

The Bridge

“Mommy! I saw heroes last night! They fought away the bad men!

“No, mommy! It wasn’t a dream this time! It wasn’t! The bad men came up the side of the bridge like clink clink clink and the heroes killed them and threw them back into the water like stab and splash and one of them tackled a bad man and punched his face!”

“I’m not making up stories, mommy! I’m not! Look! See this stain on the ledge?

“That’s where the bad man died.”

-Jan, Traveling Child
“I want to be a hero some day.”

Potion Time

After escaping the bridge and sleeping the next day away in North Stonebridge, the heroes feel it is time to set out again. They uncork their disguise potions, drink deep, and… nothing happens.

It would seem that the potions have been rendered ineffective for some reason. The adventurers must make their escape without the aid of magical performance enhancers.

They climb out the window and have almost made it to the woods outside of town, when they hear from behind them:

“It’s them! Gettem!”

-Jeremiah, DM
“Dear dear, we are in trouble now, aren’t we?”

Each adventurer gets 400 XP.

To Kill a King
KG Session 3

The Escape

“Damn them! We trusted those cunts! We trusted them and they killed the King, Gods rest him.

“Of course they’re guilty! Guilty men don’t flee. Guilty men don’t kill Guardsmen. They cut off Gerold’s leg for Gods’ sake!

“No, we lost track of them near the kitchens, but don’t worry, we’re having our men (or what’s left of them at least) go over that wing with everything we’ve got. If they’re still hiding in the castle, Judge guide us, we’ll find them.”

-Sir Kris Marlowe, Captain of the City Guard
“If I see him again, I’ll take his penis!"

Boats and Hoes (But mostly Boats)

“The jellon is a wondrous fruit. While most know it for its sticky sweet flesh, it is possessed of many unique and curious qualities.

“With surprisingly little effort, jellon sap may be mixed into a nearly undetectable adhesive. This adhesive may not work on all surfaces, but items like porcelain, glass, and tile will stick together with marvelous ease.

“A relatively simple mixture of mashed jellon flesh and some sort of granular substance (wood shavings, flour, wheat husks, sand) creates a blend that holds shape while remaining malleable, and is also lighter than water. The possible applications of this fruit may be endless. Only time will tell how this wondrous melon is used.”

-Arthur Pompelmouse, author of “A Historie of the Vegetation of Geldira”
“Are you jellon? I’m totally jellon.”

Heroes in Diguise

“Yeah, a couple of weirdos came in the other day. Bought some beards and cloaks and all that. Plus a couple of those face changing potions.

“Nah, I didn’t tell them, but you build up a tolerance to them over time. I figure by the time they find out, they’ll be far enough away that it won’t matter. Don’t know where they are, but they probably know by now.”

-Lan Greencloak, costume merchant, Greencloak Apparel, Highwater
“Business integrity? Wazzat?”

Each character gets 325 XP.

"The Bear and the Maiden Fair"
KG Session 2

The Execution

“Power corrupts.

“’F I’ve said it once, I’ve said it more’n once. Power corrupts. Tha’s what happened. Give some merchant’s son a Lordship and sud’nly he’s wanting a whole Kingdom. Good eggs goin’ bad ‘n all that. They say he was lookin’ t’hire an army to fight the King, they say. I heard from my friend Lew that it was gonna be an army of dragons, but Lew ain’t got nothing but turnips between his ears.

“Either way, ’f King Gelmar says ’at Lord Tytos was a traitor, ’as good enough for me. Glad they got to ’him ’afore anything bad happened. Am I right?”

-Benjy, Patron at The Bee And Bear
“Anyone wanna buy Ole Benjy another drink?”

The Jester

“If we counted everyone that entered Roinsrest, we’d have more numbers to figure than the Haunted Forest has trees. We have no way of knowing who this fool was, other than his tattoo… Yes, it’s a black candle with a white flame, just there on his left shoulder.

“Oh, and his victim over there? It would seem he’s a Northern merchant. It’s odd, though. He looks to have been killed by a poisoned blade, but we didn’t find any poisoned weapons on the madman… In fact, we didn’t find any weapons on him. If I didn’t know better, I’d think there was some funny business about this whole thing, but the Captain says those four strangers can be trusted and I’m inclined to believe him.”

-Jalon Wend, Roinsrest Coroner
“This isn’t even the strangest case I’ve seen this week. A few days ago they brought in a cockless minotaur.”

Breakfast at Gelmar’s

I would say breakfast went off without a hitch… Until all the hitches happened. Our intrepid heroes found themselves set upon by four assassins, all bearing the same mark as the Jester they killed the previous day.

Taking care of the assassins with (unanticipated, on my part) ease, they escaped the palace just in time to see King Gelmar assassinated. Killed by a poisoned crossbow bolt.

It would seem something bad is afoot.

-Jeremiah, DM

"Hey! It's the guy who took the penis!"
KG Session 1

The Festival

“At any large festival, there are sure to be a few mishaps. The second day of the Roinsrest festival was no exception. Somehow, a ferocious minotaur called “Gorog the Destroyer” broke free of his handler and began a terrible rampage. It seems the handler was the only civilian casualty, but his body was too badly trampled to examine.

“The minotaur was stopped by an unlikely group of heroes: A man called Blade, a hedge knight I’d never heard of, a great hulking man with a spear, and a female archer. Eyewitness testimony confirms that the beast’s horns were taken by the group as trophies, along with several… other parts…

“The four were rewarded by Lord Dior Fenn on behalf of the Crown.”

-Sir Kris Marlowe, Captain of the City Guard
“… the penis?…”

The Hunt

Though the King was preoccupied on some unspecified business, the hunt held in his honor proceeded as planned. Scores of noblemen and working men alike took to the Kingswood to see who could net the largest boar.

Our group of intrepid adventurers were able to find and kill a massive direboar and several of its children. Rumor has it that one of the boars was brought back alive to be kept as a pet by the group. We’ll see how that turns out.

-Jeremiah, DM
“I wish I took the penis.”

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.
